Exhibit Opening - Women and Violence // Women for Peace

  • 730 Broadway Kingston, New York, 12401 United States (map)

On the first of each month, join us as we open our newest monthly exhibitions.

This month: “Women and Violence // Women For Peace”.

This exhibit explores the ways in which gender inequality has been shaped by historical, cultural, political, and religious systems, and how these structures continue to influence women's lives today. From the roots of patriarchy and the war system to gender based violence, domestic abuse, the limiting of women's rights, and the experiences of women during conflict, this exhibition examines the many forms violence can take. Through stories such as the experiences of the Korean "Comfort Women," alongside examples of women leading peace movements and social change, visitors are invited to consider not only how violence affects women, but why gender equality is essential to building more peaceful societies.
